Over the past two weeks, our Plastic Free July Special has taken us on a journey of reflection.

Last week, we began our Plastic Free July Special by discovering that places of worship can also become places of environmental stewardship. This week, our journey takes us beyond the church grounds and into the very landscapes that inspire us to travel.

We continue that conversation with the 1st Runners-Up blog from the Ink the Change Competition, Plastic Killing Paradise. Paradise isn’t lost overnight. It disappears one plastic bottle, one discarded wrapper, and one careless decision at a time.

From our coastlines and national parks to our forests and communities, Kenya’s natural beauty is what draws travellers from around the world. Yet these same destinations are increasingly threatened by plastic pollution, a challenge that demands action from all of us.

Yet there is hope. Not every waterfall tells the same story. Some remain clean because visitors choose to carry their waste home; communities organize clean-ups, and conservation becomes part of the travel experience. Perhaps protecting paradise doesn’t begin with grand gestures. Perhaps it begins with one traveller making a better choice.

The Great Migration has begun!
The first wildebeest have begun arriving in the Mara ecosystem, making their way through the Sand River into the Mara Triangle. A few early crossings have also been spotted along the Mara River, a thrilling sign of what’s to come.

For now, the herds are still building in numbers, but with every passing day, the spectacle grows closer to its peak. Soon, thousands upon thousands of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles will surge across the plains and brave crocodile-filled rivers in one of nature’s greatest wildlife events.

Every partnership has the power to create a ripple effect.

In quarter 2 of 2026, we witnessed that ripple through 972 students empowered with life skills and better health awareness, 745 teenage girls supported to stay in school with dignity, 535 beneficiaries receiving consistent food support, 64 learners experiencing conservation first-hand at Ole Naishu Conservancy, 20 community representatives equipped to strengthen community-led tourism and continued restoring degraded landscapes through our Adopt a Tree initiative, planting 110 indigenous and fruit trees across six partner schools.

We also marked a significant milestone by being named a finalist in the 2026 @atta_tourism for Action Awards – Collaborative Impact Award. The recognition celebrated our long-term, collaborative approach to creating measurable impact across education, livelihoods, conservation, and community wellbeing.

Behind every statistic is a story of collaboration between communities, schools, healthcare professionals, conservation partners, volunteers, and supporters like you. Together, we're proving that tourism can do more than create memorable journeys; it can empower people, strengthen communities, protect nature, and inspire future generations.
