This youth-centered initiative is designed to equip young leaders with the knowledge, confidence, and voice to drive sustainable tourism development in Kenya.

As we move from the pilot phase into full implementation across institutions of higher learning in 2026, we aspire to:

✅ Strengthen research, mentorship, and community engagement.
✅ Inspire actionable solutions for a more sustainable tourism future.

🐢 Since 2012, Diani Turtle Watch has been on the frontlines of marine conservation along Kenya’s South Coast, from Waa to Funzi Island, a stretch of nearly 50 km. With a dedicated team of 14 turtle monitors, they are up at sunrise every day, surveying the beach for nesting activity, strandings, and any signs of distress among our sea turtles.

🌊 This coastline is home to two key species: the Green turtle which is the most common here, and the Hawksbill turtle. Both are globally endangered, a reminder of how fragile marine biodiversity truly is.

📍From their base at the Marine Education Centre within The Sands at Nomad, Diani Turtle Watch works tirelessly to raise awareness among local communities, schools, and visitors. Their mission is simple but powerful, to protect what’s left, restore what we can, and inspire action for our oceans, because when we safeguard turtles, we safeguard entire marine ecosystems.
