Guidelines for good practice when traveling and while on safari

General travel guidelines

  1. Research your destination to learn about local customs, culture, and any specific safety tips. Understanding local laws and etiquette will help you blend in and respect the communities you visit.
  2. Pack light and smart by bringing only what you need and pack items that are appropriate for the climate and activities you’ll be engaging in. Consider eco-friendly and sustainable travel products.
  3. Check if any vaccinations or health precautions are necessary for your destination. Carry a basic first aid kit and any personal medications.
  4. Keep your valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings. Avoid risky behaviors and follow local safety advice.
  5. Respect local customs and be mindful of cultural norms and practices. Dress appropriately and ask for permission before taking photographs of people or their property.
  6. Follow the principles of leaving no trace—dispose of waste properly, avoid disturbing wildlife, and minimize your impact on natural landscapes.

Safari-specific guidelines

  1. Obey game laws and regulations. Respect the fact that your guide is bound by these rules and adheres to them to ensure conservation and safety.
  2. Maintain a safe distance and don’t approach animals too closely. The recommended distance is at least 25 meters. Encourage your driver to do the same to avoid disturbing wildlife.
  3. During game drives, keep noise to a minimum to avoid disturbing the animals. A quiet environment is less likely to stress wildlife.
  4. Do not feed any animal in the wild. Feeding animals can disrupt their natural behavior and diet.
  5. Leave no trace by aiming to leave the environment as you found it. Don’t litter and make sure to properly dispose of any waste.
  6. Support local economies by buying locally crafted souvenirs to support local artisans and economies.
  7. Do not buy or trade items covered under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES), such as ivory, turtle products, rhino horn, furs, butterflies, and many plant species.
  8. Respect flora by not picking plants or flowers. Preserve the natural environment by leaving flora as you found it.
  9. Handle local gifts thoughtfully. Do not give sweets, pens, or other items to children on the street, as it may encourage begging. Instead, contribute through local organizations or schools.
  10. Ask before taking photos. As a courtesy, ask for permission before taking pictures of people. Respect their privacy and cultural norms.
  11. Report illegal activities, such as child prostitution, to local authorities.
  12. Lets Go Travel Uniglobe do not support any tours or activities that involve unethical animal interactions.
