Have the vast Tanzanian plains all to yourself during this 5 day itinerary spent visiting Mikumi and Ruaha National Parks, two of the country’s most pristine tracts of wilderness. Made for the intrepid tourist with the heart of an explorer, this holiday will take you on a wild journey into Africa’s new safari frontier.
Day 1: Dar-es-Salaam - Mikumi National Park
Depart early from Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, travelling into the vast Mikumi National Park, which is perfectly set between the blue hills of the Uluguru, Rubeho, and Lumango Mountains. You’ll arrive at your lodge in time for lunch.
Perfectly secluded, you’ll set off to discover Mikumi’s magic on a late afternoon game drive, as you explore the park’s untouched plains and rock formations, hear the mighty roar of a lion, and the sound of the wind rustling in the acacia, baobab and tamarind trees. At sunset, return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Mikumi National Park - Ruaha National Park
After breakfast set off for Ruaha National Park, a remarkable and completely undiscovered landscape dotted with spiky palms and bulbous baobabs. Picnic lunch enroute.
As you journey through Ruaha’s scorched red earth and see lions skulking through the age-old baobab trees, you’ll soon realize that to step into Ruaha is to step back in time: into the ancient wonder and beauty of an Africa that has existed forever. Return to your lodge at dusk for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 3: Ruaha National Park
As the sun rises over the magnificent Ruaha River, the lifeline of this vast park, you’ll set out on a morning game drive at a time when the park is at its most active: big cats finding their shade after their night prowl and other wildlife are emerging to catch the first rays of heat.
Full day game viewing along the banks of the Ruaha River with a picnic lunch, then as the sun sets, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Ruaha National Park - Mikumi National Park
After one more magical morning out exploring Ruaha’s ancient and dusty wilderness, make your way back to Mikumi, picnic lunch en route.
As you travel back to your lodge for the evening, find peace in the vastness that surrounds you, taking in the incredible beauty of nature for what is a perfect end to your Tanzanian safari. Overnight at Mikumi.
Day 5
After breakfast, depart for Dar-es-Salaam and arrive into the city in the late afternoon.
