Day 1: Addis Ababa

Upon your arrival at Bole International Airport, you’ll be met by a local representative that will transfer you to your hotel in Addis Ababa. Spend some time exploring this bustling and lively city, which is also the perfect place to sample some tasty local dishes and the buzzing nightlife.

Overnight stay: Monarch Hotel/Similar

Day 2: Addis Ababa - Bahir Dar (1 hr 5 minute flight)

Today, you will fly from Addis to Bahir Dar, where you’ll be able to immerse yourself in the rich history of Ethiopia. Embark on a boat cruise to Lake Tana to visit some of the ancient island monasteries, such as the Monastery of Ura Kidane Mihret, and see the source of the mighty Blue Nile River.

In the afternoon, drive to the village of Tis Isat to see the impressive Blue Nile Falls - often referred to by the locals as ‘Smoke of Fire’ - the most dramatic spectacle on either the White or Blue Nile River.

Overnight: Abay Minch Hotel/Similar

Day 3: Bahir Dar - Gondar (3 Hour Drive)

After breakfast, depart for Gondar. This drive will take you through rural villages, offering wonderful insight into the Amhara culture. After settling into your hotel, explore the historic sites of Gondar including the Royal Enclosure, Fasiladas pool, and the Debre Birhan Selassie Church, with the most famous ceiling in Ethiopia.

Day 4: Gondar - Lalibela (45 minute flight)

In the morning, transfer to the airport for your flight to Lalibela, also known as ‘Africa’s Petra’ and the jewel in the crown of Ethiopia. Upon arrival, you will be met by a local representative and taken to your hotel. Spend the morning visiting the magnificent rock hewn Churches of Lalibela, which are still active places of worship.

Constructed over 800 years ago, these churches are steeped in mystery and legend and are often referred to as one of the living wonders of the world.

Overnight: Lalibela Hotel

Day 5: Lalibela - Axum (50 minute flight)

Today, you will be transferred from your hotel to the airport for your flight to Axum, the ancient Ethiopian kingdom, and a prime historical site in the country. After settling into your hotel, you’ll take a city tour that includes visiting the Stelae Park, St Mary’s Church, the Tomb of Kaleb and Queen Sheba’s Bath.

Overnight: Consular Hotel/Sabean Hotel

Day 6: Axum - Addis Ababa (1 hr 20 minute flight)

Check out of your hotel and transfer to the airport for your flight back to Addis. Based upon your international flight schedule, you’ll be taken to Bole International Airport for your departure.
